How to cancel eharmony

Quick answer

  1. Sign in at eharmony.com/login and open Data & Settings from the menu next to your picture.
  2. Select Cancel auto renewal, then the cancellation link at the bottom of the page.
  3. Answer eharmony's questions until you see the confirmation page. Do this at least 24 hours before your term ends.

You keep Premium until the end of the term you paid for, with no refund for unused days. Installment payments for that term keep coming. If Apple or Google Play bills you, cancel with them instead.

Fee warning

Cancel at least 24 hours before your current term ends. Otherwise eharmony renews it, for 12 months unless you agreed to a different renewal term when you bought. If you pay in installments, cancelling doesn't stop the payments left for your current term.

First, find out who bills you

The device you use doesn't decide how you cancel. The company that charges you does.

Fastest check: Find your purchase receipt. An Apple or Google Play receipt means they bill you. A charge from eharmony on your card or PayPal statement means eharmony does.

Cancel on the eharmony website

Recommended

This turns off auto-renewal. It works in any browser, on a computer or on your phone.

  1. Sign in at eharmony.com/login.
  2. Select the arrow next to your picture at the top of the screen, then Data & Settings.
  3. Select Cancel auto renewal. If you don't see it, look under Manage profile for Amend Subscription.
  4. Read the details, then select the cancellation link at the bottom of the page.
  5. Answer any questions eharmony asks until you see the confirmation page.

Done when: You reach eharmony's confirmation page. Your membership stays active until the end of the term you paid for.

  • Cancel at least 24 hours before your current term ends. After that, eharmony renews the membership.
  • If you pay in installments, the payments left for your current term are still charged.
  • Deleting the eharmony app doesn't cancel your membership or stop scheduled payments.
  • No cancel option in Data & Settings? One of eharmony's help articles tells web members to ask Customer Care to turn off renewal. Use the Customer Care steps below.

Billed by Apple

If you bought Premium in the eharmony iPhone app, Apple bills you and only Apple can cancel it.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Apple subscriptions.
  2. Tap eharmony.
  3. Tap Cancel Subscription.

Done when: eharmony in your Apple subscriptions shows an end date instead of a renewal date.

  • The same link works on a Mac, where it opens your subscriptions in the App Store.
  • No Cancel Subscription button means it's already cancelled.
  • eharmony can't cancel or refund purchases made through Apple. That includes the 3-day right to cancel: ask Apple.

Billed by Google Play

If you bought Premium in the eharmony Android app, Google Play bills you. Cancel it there.

  1. Open the Play Store and tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap eharmony.
  4. Tap Cancel subscription.

Done when: Google Play shows the date the subscription ends.

Cancel through Customer Care

If the website doesn't let you cancel, eharmony's Customer Care can turn off renewal for you. Contact them through the help center.

  1. Open eharmony's Customer Care page, select Contact Customer Care at the bottom and sign in.
  2. Send your request with the contact form, or use chat if it's offered.
  3. Say: "I want to cancel my eharmony membership and turn off auto-renewal. Please confirm in writing the date my membership ends."
  4. Save Customer Care's reply or a copy of the chat.

Done when: Customer Care confirms in writing that auto-renewal is off and tells you when your membership ends.

  • eharmony says it replies to most Customer Care contacts within 24 hours, and chat is open only during limited hours. Contact them well before your term ends.
  • To delete your account while a membership is still running, you also go through Customer Care.

Cancel by mail

eharmony's terms also accept a cancellation notice by post.

  1. Write a short letter saying you're cancelling your eharmony membership. Sign and date it.
  2. Include the email address on your eharmony account.
  3. Mail it to eHarmony, Inc., Attn: Cancellations, P.O. Box 28, New Hope, PA 18938.
  4. Keep a copy of the letter and proof of the date you sent it.

Done when: No charge for a new term appears after your membership ends. To know sooner, check your membership details in Data & Settings, or ask Customer Care to confirm in writing that it won't renew.

  • Mail takes days. If your term ends soon, cancel on the website instead, since eharmony needs the cancellation at least 24 hours before the term ends.

Pause or take a break instead of cancelling

If you live in New York, eharmony's terms let you pause a Premium membership for up to one year. Ask in writing, by email to support@eharmony.com or by mail to eHarmony, Inc., P.O. Box 28, New Hope, PA 18938, and say how long you want the pause. A pause doesn't change payments that are already scheduled.

Wherever you live, you can also hide your profile: open Data & Settings and use the slider to make your profile invisible. Hiding doesn't stop billing, and members you're already in touch with can still see you.

Free trial

eharmony says it offers free trials to new members from time to time, but it doesn't publish fixed trial terms. Check the end date and the price shown when you sign up. If the offer turns into a paid membership, cancel at least 24 hours before the date shown.

You don't need a trial to try eharmony: a Basic membership is free and has no time limit.

What happens after you cancel

  • Access: Premium stays on until the end of the term you paid for. After that you're back on a free Basic membership, where messaging is limited and most member photos are blurred.
  • Your account: Cancelling doesn't delete your account. It becomes a free Basic membership.
  • Your data: eharmony generally deletes a Basic account's personal information after 2 years of inactivity, except what it keeps for accounting and records. To delete it sooner, contact Customer Care while a membership is still running, or use the permanent delete link in Data & Settings on the eharmony website once it has ended. Deleting is permanent.
  • Rejoining: Sign in and upgrade to Premium again. Your profile is still there unless you deleted it, or you didn't sign in for 2 years and eharmony deleted it.

How to check it worked

  1. Take a screenshot of eharmony's confirmation page, or keep Customer Care's written reply.
  2. Open Data & Settings again and check your membership details. If you're not sure renewal is off, ask Customer Care to confirm it in writing.
  3. If you pay in installments, expect the remaining payments for your current term. A charge for a new term after your end date means renewal is still on: contact Customer Care.
  4. If Apple or Google Play bills you, check that eharmony shows an end date in your subscriptions there.

Getting a refund

  • Billed by eharmony: eharmony doesn't refund unused days. You keep Premium until the term ends instead.
  • 3-day right to cancel: If you live in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island or Wisconsin, eharmony's terms let you cancel a new purchase without penalty before midnight of the third business day after you buy (Sundays and holidays don't count). Email subscriptions@eharmony.com. Live chat with Customer Care also counts, but it isn't always available. eharmony says it refunds within 10 days of getting your notice. For Wisconsin, the terms count 3 days and allow up to 21 days for the refund.
  • 3-day notice by mail: You can also mail a signed, dated notice with your account email. The terms list two addresses for it: eHarmony, Inc., Attn: Cancellations, P.O. Box 28, New Hope, PA 18938, and P.O. Box 189, South Pasadena, CA 91031.
  • Death or disability: eharmony's terms say that in the same states, if death or a disability stops you using your membership, you or your estate can stop future payments and get back the prepaid part you didn't use. A disability must be verified in writing by a physician you choose and pay, and you must give eharmony that verification: ask Customer Care how to send it. If the disability is expected to last under 6 months, eharmony may extend the membership by 6 months instead.
  • Billed by Apple: Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides, not eharmony.
  • Billed by Google Play: Within 48 hours of a purchase, you may be able to request a refund on Google Play. After that, Google says to contact the developer, eharmony. eharmony's terms say Google processes refunds for Google Play purchases.

If you were billed through the App Store, Apple decides eligibility case by case. Refund rules differ by country and by provider.

Questions people ask

Can I cancel eharmony in the app?

eharmony's help explains cancelling on the website, in Data & Settings. If Apple or Google Play bills you, cancel in your Apple subscriptions or in Google Play. Deleting the app doesn't cancel anything or stop scheduled payments.

Will I get money back for the rest of my term?

Usually not. eharmony doesn't refund unused days. The exceptions are the 3-day right to cancel and the death or disability rules in the states its terms list.

Why am I still being charged after I cancelled?

If you chose installments, cancelling stops the renewal but not the payments left for your current term. A payment that was declined earlier is also retried until it's paid. Check the date and amount against your schedule. A charge for a new term means renewal wasn't turned off in time: contact Customer Care.

How long does eharmony renew for?

Its US terms say memberships renew for 12-month terms unless you agreed to a different length when you bought. Cancel at least 24 hours before your term ends.

Can I cancel eharmony by phone?

eharmony's help pages don't offer cancelling by phone. Your card statement may show a phone number for eharmony, but the website and Customer Care are the documented ways. On eharmony's Customer Care page, select Contact Customer Care to send a request or chat. If you do call, ask for written confirmation.

Does cancelling delete my profile?

No. Your account becomes a free Basic membership. To delete it, contact Customer Care while a membership is running, or use the delete link in Data & Settings once it has ended.
