Quick answer
- Go to netflix.com/cancelplan and sign in.
- Select Cancel.
- Select Finish Cancellation.
You keep watching until your billing period ends. Netflix doesn't refund unused days. If Apple, T-Mobile or Verizon bills you, or Netflix is included in or added to a TV or internet package, cancel with that company instead.

First, find out who bills you
The device you watch on doesn't decide how you cancel. The company that charges you does.
Fastest check: Sign in at netflix.com, open your Account page and look under Membership. Netflix shows either a link to cancel, or instructions to contact the company that bills you.
| What you see | Who bills you | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| A charge from Netflix on your card or PayPal | Netflix | Cancel on the Netflix website |
| A charge from APPLE.COM/BILL, with an Apple receipt for Netflix | Apple | Billed by Apple |
| Netflix listed on your T-Mobile or Verizon bill | Your phone carrier | Billed by a phone, TV or internet provider |
| Netflix billed through Cox or Xfinity (you signed up on a Cox Contour or Xfinity X1 box, not as part of a package) | Cox or Xfinity | Cancel on the Netflix website |
| Netflix included in or added to your DIRECTV, DISH, Frontier, Optimum, Spectrum or Xfinity package, including Xfinity StreamSaver | That provider | Billed by a phone, TV or internet provider |

Cancel on the Netflix website
This works in any browser: on a computer, or in Safari or Chrome on your phone.
- Open netflix.com/cancelplan and sign in.
- Select Cancel.
- Select Finish Cancellation.
Done when: Netflix emails you a cancellation confirmation and your Account page shows the date your membership ends.
- Netflix says this page is the only way to cancel. Signing out or deleting the app doesn't cancel your account.
Cancel on iPhone, iPad or Android
If Netflix bills you directly, cancel in your phone's browser.
- Open Safari or Chrome on your phone.
- Go to netflix.com/cancelplan and sign in.
- Select Cancel, then Finish Cancellation.
Done when: Netflix emails you a cancellation confirmation.
- Deleting the Netflix app doesn't cancel anything.
- If Apple bills you, use the Apple steps below instead.
Cancel on a TV, game console or streaming stick
Cancel on your phone or a computer.
- On your phone or computer, open netflix.com/cancelplan and sign in.
- Select Cancel, then Finish Cancellation.
Done when: Netflix emails you a cancellation confirmation.
- Signing out of Netflix on the TV doesn't stop the charges.
Billed by Apple
Netflix no longer offers Apple billing to new or returning members, so this applies only to older accounts. Your Netflix Account page tells you if Apple bills you.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open your Apple subscriptions.
- Tap Netflix.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
Done when: Netflix in your Apple subscriptions shows an end date instead of a renewal date.
- The same link works on a Mac, where it opens your subscriptions in the App Store.
- No Cancel Subscription button means it's already cancelled.
- Netflix not in the list? Check the receipt email to see which Apple Account paid. If a family member's account paid, only they can cancel it.
- Cancel more than 24 hours before your renewal date, or Apple may renew it one more time.
- After Apple ends the subscription, Netflix puts the account on hold for 30 days and then cancels it.
- If you switched from Apple billing to paying Netflix directly since 25 October 2021, also cancel Netflix in your Apple subscriptions, or Apple can keep charging you.
Billed by a phone, TV or internet provider
If Netflix comes with your phone plan, or is included in or added to a TV or internet package, you cancel it through that company, not through Netflix.
- Verizon: in My Verizon, open Products & plan perks and manage the Netflix & HBO Max perk. With Fios Home Internet, select the perk on your My Verizon homepage.
- T-Mobile: in the T-Life app, tap the Account tab, then Manage Add-ons. On T-Mobile.com, select Manage add-ons and benefits. Remove Netflix, then select Continue.
- Or call T-Mobile (1-800-937-8997) or Verizon (1-800-922-0204 for Mobile, Fios or 5G customers) and ask them to remove Netflix from your plan.
- If a card is saved on your Netflix account, also cancel at netflix.com/cancelplan.
Done when: Your provider's bill no longer lists Netflix and your Netflix Account page shows an end date.
- Verizon TV customers can also get help at verizon.com/support/entertainment-play-faqs.
- If you manage Netflix in Verizon +play, cancel at least 2 days before the bill cycle ends, or Verizon charges the next full cycle. Verizon gives no refunds for partial periods.
- Removing Netflix from your carrier plan or TV package doesn't close your Netflix account. Netflix uses up any gift balance, then charges the card on file, or puts the account on hold.
- Verizon packages cover only the main plan. Extra member slots keep being charged to your other payment method.
- If you used to pay through Apple, cancel the Apple subscription too, or Apple keeps charging you.
- If you're billed through Cox or Xfinity for Netflix on its own (you signed up on a Cox Contour or Xfinity X1 box), cancel at netflix.com/cancelplan like any member.
- If Netflix is included in or added to a DIRECTV, DISH, Frontier, Optimum, Spectrum or Xfinity package, including Xfinity StreamSaver, contact that provider to cancel. Your Netflix Account page shows who to contact.
Extra members
An extra member is someone outside the household added to another person's Netflix account. The account owner pays for the slot, so the owner is the one who stops the charge.
To stop paying for a slot, the owner goes to netflix.com/account/membership/extra-members, selects Cancel slot, then Cancel extra member slot. The extra member can keep watching until the end of the current billing period. Remove recipient only takes the person off the slot: they lose access immediately, but the slot stays.
If you're the extra member, you can end your own access at netflix.com/account: select Membership, then Cancel Membership and Finish Cancellation. You lose access right away. The owner is notified and keeps paying for the slot until they cancel it or invite someone else.
If the owner cancels Netflix, all extra member slots are cancelled too.
Pause instead of cancelling
If your plan and payment method allow it, the cancel page shows Pause for 1 Month. The pause starts on your next billing date and lasts 1 month. You aren't charged during a pause and can't stream. A pause doesn't cancel your membership: after the month, Netflix charges your plan price again unless you extend the pause or cancel. You can extend up to 3 months in total if a credit or debit card is your main payment method, or select Unpause Now on your Account page to come back early. Unpausing charges you right away.
Pausing isn't available on the Basic plan, or with gift cards and some partner payments. If you don't see the option, it isn't offered for your account.
Free trial
Netflix has no free trial in the US. Limited trials are offered to eligible new members in some other countries, but not in the US or the UK.
What Netflix shows you before you leave
Where available, the cancel page offers Pause for 1 Month. To leave, select Finish Cancellation.
- Pause for 1 Month: To cancel instead, select Finish Cancellation.
What happens after you cancel
- Access: You keep streaming until the end of the billing period you already paid for. Your Account page shows the exact end date. If your account is on hold, it closes as soon as you cancel. A remaining gift card or promotional balance keeps it open until the balance runs out.
- Your data: Netflix keeps your profiles, viewing history, ratings and game saves for 24 months after your account closes, so they're there if you rejoin. For games without cloud saves, the game and its data must still be on the device you played on. After 24 months, Netflix's standard practice is to delete the account. To have it deleted sooner, see Deleting your Netflix account.
- Rejoining: Sign in and restart your membership. If you used to pay through Apple, you'll need a new payment method.
How to check it worked
- Look for the cancellation confirmation email from Netflix.
- Open your Account page and check that it shows the date your membership ends.
- Change your password at netflix.com/password and check Sign out of all devices, so no one still signed in can restart your account.
- Check your next card statement for a new Netflix charge.
Getting a refund
- Billed by Netflix: Netflix doesn't refund unused time. You keep access until the period ends instead.
- Charged after you cancelled: Someone may have restarted the account. If not, contact Netflix at help.netflix.com/contactus.
- Billed by Apple: Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides, not Netflix.
- Billed by a partner: Netflix can't give refunds when a phone, TV or internet provider bills you. Ask that provider. Verizon doesn't refund or prorate its Netflix & HBO Max perk charge.
If you were billed through the App Store, Apple decides eligibility case by case. Refund rules differ by country and by provider.
Questions people ask
Can I cancel Netflix in the app?
Netflix says the Manage your membership page is the only way to cancel. Open netflix.com/cancelplan in a browser. Deleting the app doesn't cancel.
Will I get money back for the rest of the month?
No. You keep watching until the period ends, and Netflix doesn't refund unused time.
Why was I charged after I cancelled?
You or someone signed in on your account may have restarted it. Cancel again at netflix.com/cancelplan, then change your password and sign out of all devices.
Will I lose my profiles and My List?
Not for 24 months. Rejoin in that time and everything is still there.
I cancelled my T-Mobile or Verizon package. Why is Netflix charging my card?
Netflix switches to the card on file when the carrier stops paying. Cancel at netflix.com/cancelplan too.
