How to cancel Spectrum

Quick answer

  1. Call Spectrum at 1-855-757-7328, or visit a Spectrum Store.
  2. Say which services you want to cancel. Ask for your disconnect date, your final amount and a confirmation number.
  3. Return rented equipment within 10 days of your disconnect date at a Spectrum Store. If there's no store near you, ask Spectrum about returning it at The UPS Store.
  4. For Spectrum Mobile lines, call 1-833-559-2634 or visit a store.

Service stops on your disconnect date, but Spectrum charges the full month and doesn't refund unused days unless your state's law requires it. Spectrum bills its services directly. If Spectrum comes with your apartment or community, your property management handles that bill, so ask them about it.

Fee warning

Spectrum charges the full month whatever day you cancel, so cancel on or before the last day of your service period to avoid another month. Return rented equipment within 10 days after service ends, or Spectrum charges you for each item. Closing Spectrum Mobile makes any device balance due on your next statement, and dropping one service from a bundle can raise the price of the services you keep.

First, find out who bills you

Spectrum bills its home and mobile services itself. If Spectrum comes with your apartment or community, your property management handles that bill. Otherwise, what decides how you cancel is which Spectrum service you have.

Fastest check: Sign in at spectrum.net or in the My Spectrum App and open your latest bill. It lists your services, and the top of the statement shows your billing cycle, so you can see the last day to cancel before another month is charged.

Cancel by phone

Recommended

Spectrum's residential terms name this number for cancelling TV, Internet and Home Phone.

  1. Have your Spectrum bill at hand. It shows your account details and your billing cycle.
  2. Call 1-855-757-7328.
  3. Say: "I want to cancel my Spectrum service. Please tell me my disconnect date, my final amount and which equipment to return, and give me a confirmation number."
  4. Write down the date, the agent's name and any confirmation or reference number you're given.

Done when: The agent confirms which services end and your disconnect date.

  • Spectrum's cancel page says to sign in at spectrum.net to view your cancellation options. If you don't see a way to cancel there, call or visit a store.
  • Keeping your home phone number? Spectrum's help says a number can only be transferred while it's still active with the current provider. Ask your new provider to transfer it first, and keep Spectrum Home Phone until the transfer is done.
  • Spectrum's Contact Us page also lists 1-833-267-6094 for TV, Internet and Home Phone.
  • Before it cancels anything, Spectrum checks your identity and that you're allowed to make changes on the account.
  • If you're offered a new price or plan, you can say no and ask the agent to continue with the cancellation.
  • Turning off Auto Pay doesn't cancel your service. You would still owe every bill.

Cancel at a Spectrum Store

Spectrum Stores cancel services and take back equipment, so you can do both in one visit.

  1. Find a store at spectrum.com/stores. Some stores let you book an appointment online.
  2. Bring all rented equipment, including the power supplies.
  3. Tell the Store Specialist which services you want to cancel, and hand in the equipment.
  4. Ask for your disconnect date and keep the receipt for the returned equipment.

Done when: The store confirms your disconnect date and gives you a receipt that lists the equipment you returned and the date.

  • You can pay your remaining balance at the store too.
  • Spectrum Mobile can also be cancelled at a store.

Cancel Spectrum Mobile

Spectrum Mobile has its own cancellation number in its terms. You can also cancel at a Spectrum Store.

  1. Call 1-833-559-2634, or visit a Spectrum Store.
  2. Say which lines you want to cancel, and whether you want to close the whole Mobile account.
  3. Ask for your final amount, including any device balance, and a confirmation number.

Done when: Spectrum confirms which lines end and on what date.

  • Spectrum's cancel page says to sign in at spectrum.net to view your Mobile cancellation options. If you don't see a way to cancel there, call or visit a store.
  • Switching carriers? Moving your number to the new carrier cancels that Spectrum line. You still pay for that billing cycle and any device balance.
  • If you close the Mobile account, the rest of any Device Payment Plan is due on your next statement. If you cancel one line and keep the account, that line's payments continue as scheduled.
  • Cancel your primary line and your Second Line becomes the primary line within 72 hours, on the old line's rate plan.
  • If you keep Mobile but cancel all your other Spectrum services, you lose the bundle discount on Mobile.
  • Mobile is charged for the full month, whatever day you cancel.

Cancel by mail

Spectrum's residential terms also accept a written notice for TV, Internet and Home Phone.

  1. Write a letter with the account holder's name, the service address, your account number, the services you want to cancel and a phone number.
  2. Sign and date it, then mail it to Spectrum, 2 Digital Place, Floor 4, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
  3. Send it with tracking and keep a copy.

Done when: Spectrum confirms the cancellation. It can't take effect before the day Spectrum receives your letter.

  • Mail is slow and the month is billed in full. If your billing period ends soon, call or visit a store instead.
  • Spectrum checks your identity before it cancels, so it may contact you first.
  • For Spectrum Mobile, call or visit a store. The Mobile terms don't list mail.

If the account isn't in your name or comes with your building

Spectrum checks your identity and your authority on the account before it cancels anything. The account holder can cancel, and so can an authorized user they've added to the account.

If the account holder has died, use Spectrum's Deceased Customer Close Account form. If the account holder is disabled or incapacitated, use the Closing Account form. Unless you're an authorized user on the account, it asks for a court order naming you guardian or conservator.

To take the account over instead of closing it, see Transfer account ownership or change name.

If Spectrum comes with your apartment or community, your property management handles that bill, so ask them about the included service. Add-ons you ordered yourself, such as faster internet, are billed to your own Spectrum account, so cancel those with Spectrum. If your equipment came from the building rather than from Spectrum, return it to building management when you move out.

Pause instead of cancelling

Away for part of the year? Seasonal status holds your TV, Internet and Home Phone for a small monthly charge on each service. It's open to existing customers in good standing, once every 12 months, for 2 to 9 months. Contact Spectrum to set it up with a start date and an end date.

You don't get regular internet access during the hold. Seasonal Plus is for homes with a security system or smart home device that needs Spectrum Internet or Home Phone to keep working. When the hold ends, your service and your previous rates come back without a new installation.

Spectrum Mobile lines can be suspended for up to 90 days, once every 12 months. Call 1-833-224-6603. A line suspended for more than 30 days costs a one-time $5 fee, and device payment and protection plans keep billing. Service restarts by itself after 90 days.

30-day money-back guarantee

New Spectrum service comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. It covers new TV, Internet, Home Phone and Mobile accounts, and TV, Internet or Home Phone upgrades, if you haven't had that service in the previous 90 days and your account is in good standing.

The guarantee page says to ask within 30 days of installation or the service change. The residential terms allow 45 days from when billing started: 30 days plus a 15-day grace period. Asking early is safest. Return the equipment first: the refund waits for it.

You get a credit first. If you cancel everything, the credit pays off your balance and Spectrum refunds the rest. It covers monthly service, standard installation and equipment charges, but not taxes and fees, devices you bought, Pay-Per-View or On Demand purchases, or extra Mobile lines.

What happens after you cancel

  • Access: Service stops on your disconnect date. The Spectrum TV App, TV channel apps and your voicemail stop working that day, so save any messages first. Streaming apps included with your TV plan, such as Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Unlimited, HBO Max, Paramount+ and Peacock, end with the plan. Spectrum says you can keep a streaming service with your Spectrum login at its full retail price.
  • Your email: Your Spectrum email address keeps working for 60 days after Internet service ends. Back up your emails and contacts before then.
  • Your bill: A final statement arrives at the next billing cycle, with charges such as international calls or Pay-Per-View. Unreturned equipment can bring another statement. You can still sign in at spectrum.net or in the My Spectrum App for 60 days.
  • Equipment: Return modems, routers, receivers and their power supplies at a Spectrum Store. If there's no store near you, The UPS Store also takes returns, but Spectrum asks you to contact it before you return equipment through The UPS Store. If you can't get to either, ask Spectrum for a home return kit. Customers with disabilities may be able to have a Spectrum technician pick up the equipment. Contact Spectrum to ask. Fiber customers keep the optical network unit and its power cord in place. Customers in Hawaii have separate return steps.
  • Rejoining: If you come back, current prices and terms apply, and Spectrum may charge installation, service call or activation fees.

How to check it worked

  1. Keep any confirmation number, or a copy of your letter, with the disconnect date.
  2. Keep the receipt for every piece of equipment you return. A Spectrum Store receipt lists the equipment and the date.
  3. Check your final statement for charges after your disconnect date and for equipment you already returned.
  4. Still getting return reminders after returning everything? Contact Spectrum with your receipt.
  5. If you kept Spectrum Mobile, check its price on your next bill.

Getting a refund

  • Billed by Spectrum: Spectrum charges the full month whatever day you cancel and doesn't refund unused days, unless your state's law requires it.
  • New service: The 30-day money-back guarantee covers new accounts and upgrades. Ask within 30 days of installation and return the equipment.
  • Security deposit: Spectrum returns a deposit within 60 days after your service ends, once your balance is paid and the equipment is back undamaged.
  • Wrong charge on your bill: Call Spectrum at 1-855-757-7328 within 60 days of the bill's due date. After that, the terms treat the dispute as waived where the law allows.

Refund rules differ by country and by provider.

Questions people ask

Can I cancel Spectrum online?

Spectrum's help says services can't be cancelled online. Its cancel page says to sign in at spectrum.net to view your cancellation options. If you don't see a way to cancel there, call 1-855-757-7328, visit a Spectrum Store or send a letter.

Is there a cancellation fee?

Spectrum's residential terms renew month to month and list no early termination fee. You still pay the full month you cancel in, any unreturned equipment and, for Spectrum Mobile, any device balance.

Do I get money back for the rest of the month?

No, unless your state's law requires it. Spectrum charges the full month whatever day you cancel. New service still inside the 30-day money-back guarantee is the exception.

What happens to Disney+ and the other apps in my TV plan?

Streaming apps included with your TV plan, such as Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Unlimited, HBO Max, Paramount+ and Peacock, end with your eligible TV plan. If you keep a streaming service you got through Spectrum, you pay its full retail price. Spectrum says activating HBO Max through Spectrum replaces a subscription you had directly with HBO Max, so check your HBO Max account after you cancel.

I'm moving. Do I have to cancel?

Not if Spectrum serves your new address. Call 1-855-363-4902 to move your TV, Internet and Home Phone. If you're moving out of Spectrum's area, cancel and return the equipment.

Can I cancel by chat?

Spectrum's terms name phone and written notice as the ways to cancel, and its chat page doesn't list cancelling. Call or visit a store.

Does this guide cover Spectrum Business?

No. Spectrum's residential terms don't apply to Spectrum Business, which has its own terms.
