How to cancel Anytime Fitness

Quick answer

  1. Read the cancellation section of your membership agreement for the notice period and any fee.
  2. Find your home club at anytimefitness.com/locations.
  3. If its page shows Cancel your membership, select Cancel and send the email that opens. Otherwise call the club or visit during office hours.
  4. Get written confirmation of your end date and any payment still due.
  5. If you activated Apple Fitness+ with your membership, cancel it in your Apple subscriptions.

Your membership ends on the date your agreement sets, and its notice period and fees still apply. Refunds follow your agreement. Apple bills the Apple Fitness+ that comes with the membership, so cancel that with Apple. If you joined through a fitness program such as Active&Fit Direct, cancel with that program.

Fee warning

Your club's membership agreement sets how to cancel, the notice period, the cost to cancel and any termination fee. Those terms still apply after you ask to cancel, so read them before you start.

First, find out who bills you

Each Anytime Fitness gym is independently owned. Your home club holds your agreement and handles cancelling it, even though another company processes the payments.

Fastest check: Your home club is the gym where you joined, or the one you transferred to. Its page at anytimefitness.com/locations lists its phone number and office hours.

Cancel with your home club

Recommended

Anytime Fitness sends cancellations to your home club, which follows your membership agreement.

  1. Find the cancellation section of your membership agreement. It covers how to cancel, the cost and any termination fee. If you don't have a copy, ask the club for one.
  2. Find your home club at anytimefitness.com/locations and check the office hours on its page.
  3. Visit during office hours and tell the staff you want to cancel your membership and any other agreements, such as personal training.
  4. Complete any form or signature your agreement asks for.
  5. Ask for written confirmation with the date your membership ends and any payment still due.

Done when: You have written confirmation from the club that shows your membership end date.

  • Members can use the gym around the clock, but the team is there to talk during office hours.
  • Use your home club, not another location you work out at. Cancellation rules differ by club and by state.

Email your club from its gym page

In some states, the membership plans section of your gym's page has a link that writes a cancellation email to your club.

  1. Open anytimefitness.com/locations and go to your home club's page.
  2. Scroll to the membership plans section and find Cancel your membership.
  3. Select Cancel. A new email to the club opens with the subject Cancel my membership.
  4. Fill in your full name, phone number and reason for cancelling, then send it.
  5. Keep the sent email and ask the club to reply with your end date.

Done when: The club replies in writing with the date your membership ends.

  • No Cancel link on your home club's page? Call or visit the club instead.
  • The prewritten email also asks to cancel associated agreements, such as personal training, nutrition or recovery, and says your agreement's notice periods and fees still apply.
  • The link opens your email app, so use a phone or computer where email is set up.

Call your home club

Each club has its own phone number, listed on its gym page.

  1. Find your home club's phone number on its page at anytimefitness.com/locations.
  2. Say: "I want to cancel my Anytime Fitness membership. Please tell me what my agreement requires and send me written confirmation of my end date."
  3. Write down the date, the staff member's name and what they told you.
  4. If the club says your agreement needs written notice, send it by email or mail as the club directs.

Done when: The club sends written confirmation with the date your membership ends.

  • ABC Financial, at 1-888-827-9262, handles billing questions for Anytime Fitness. For cancelling, Anytime Fitness points you to your home club.

Cancel by mail

Use this when your agreement asks for written notice sent by mail.

  1. Check your agreement for the mailing address and any form or signature it requires.
  2. Write a dated letter with your full name, phone number, membership agreement number and a request to cancel your membership and any associated agreements.
  3. Send it with tracking and keep a copy.

Done when: The club confirms in writing that it received your notice and gives your end date.

  • Anytime Fitness doesn't publish one mailing address for cancellations. Each club handles its own.

Cancel Apple Fitness+ (billed by Apple)

Anytime Fitness memberships include free Apple Fitness+, activated in the AF app. Apple bills it, and it renews until you cancel it.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Apple subscriptions.
  2. Tap Apple Fitness+.
  3. Tap Cancel Subscription.

Done when: Apple Fitness+ in your Apple subscriptions shows an end date instead of a renewal date.

  • The same link works on a Mac, where it opens your subscriptions in the App Store.
  • No Cancel Subscription button means it's already cancelled.
  • Fitness+ not in the list? If a family member's Apple Account subscribed, only they can cancel it.
  • Members get Fitness+ free 2 months at a time, and the AF app asks you to redeem each next free period. If you leave the gym, cancel Fitness+ too: once the current free period ends, Apple charges $9.99 a month until you cancel.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before your free period ends, or Apple may charge you.
  • Cancelling Fitness+ doesn't cancel your gym membership.

Billed by Active&Fit Direct or another fitness program

If you use an Anytime Fitness gym through a fitness program such as Active&Fit Direct, you pay the program, not the club.

  1. Sign in to your account at activeandfitdirect.com.
  2. Select Manage Memberships and cancel your membership there.

Done when: Your enrollment ends on the last day of the month you paid for, and Active&Fit Direct stops charging you.

  • Cancelling at the gym doesn't stop the program's charge.
  • If you suspended your Anytime Fitness membership to join Active&Fit Direct, cancelling the program can bring that membership back. If you're leaving the gym, cancel it with your home club too.
  • After the first 2 months, you can cancel at any time with no fee. Cancel at least 30 days before your next monthly payment date to avoid another charge.
  • You can also cancel by calling Active&Fit Direct at 1-844-646-2746 (TTY 711), Monday to Friday, 5 am to 6 pm Pacific Time, except holidays.
  • If another fitness program bills you, cancel with that program. The health plan, employer or association that offers it can tell you how.

Family, joint and add-on agreements

Some clubs offer family or joint memberships. Check your agreement, and ask the club to confirm in writing which members your request covers.

Personal training, nutrition or recovery agreements can be separate from your membership. Name them in your request too.

Freeze instead of cancelling

Each club sets its own rules for freezing or suspending a membership, for example after an injury or during travel. Ask your home club how long you can freeze, what it costs and how to restart.

In some states, your gym's page shows Freeze your membership next to the cancel link. Select Freeze to open an email asking the club to freeze your membership for 1 month, after which it resumes.

Free trial

Participating gyms give new customers who live or work nearby a free 1- or 7-day pass, depending on the gym. Bring a photo ID. If you can't show that you live nearby, the gym may charge a fee.

The trial pass can come with up to 2 months of Apple Fitness+. If you had Fitness+ before, you may get less or not qualify. It needs an Apple Account with a card on file. If you don't join the gym, cancel Fitness+ in your Apple subscriptions at least 24 hours before the free period ends, or Apple charges $9.99 a month.

What happens after you cancel

  • Access: Your membership ends on the date your agreement and its notice period set. Ask the club to put that date in writing.
  • Apple Fitness+: It renews until you cancel it. Once your last free period ends, Apple charges $9.99 a month.
  • Your data: Anytime Fitness Franchisor LLC keeps personal data as long as its privacy notice's purposes need, or longer where the law requires or permits. Depending on where you live, you can ask for access or deletion at anytimefitness.com/dataprivacyrequest. Your home club is independently owned and holds your membership agreement, so ask the club about its records too.
  • Rejoining: Join again at any Anytime Fitness gym, at the club or on the gym's page where it sells memberships online. Each gym sets its own prices.

How to check it worked

  1. Keep the club's written confirmation, or your sent email and the club's reply, with your end date.
  2. Check your card or bank statement after your end date. If a charge appears that your confirmation doesn't explain, contact your home club.
  3. Open your Apple subscriptions and check that Apple Fitness+ shows an end date, if you used it.

Getting a refund

  • Billed by your club: Your membership agreement sets any refund. Ask your home club.
  • Charged twice or too much: Anytime Fitness sends these to its billing provider, ABC Financial: call 1-888-827-9262 or email customercare@abcfitness.com.
  • Billed by Apple: Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides, not Anytime Fitness.

If you were billed through the App Store, Apple decides eligibility case by case. Refund rules differ by country and by provider.

Questions people ask

Can I cancel Anytime Fitness online?

Only in some states. There, your gym's page at anytimefitness.com/locations has a Cancel link that writes an email to your club. Everywhere else, call or visit your home club. Anytime Fitness doesn't publish a way to cancel in the AF app.

Can Anytime Fitness headquarters or ABC Financial cancel for me?

Anytime Fitness sends cancellations to your home club, because each gym is independently owned. ABC Financial handles billing questions, such as a double charge, at 1-888-827-9262.

How much does it cost to cancel?

It depends on your club's agreement, which lists the cost to cancel and any termination fee. Ask the club if you can't find your copy.

What if my club doesn't respond?

Keep copies of what you sent and when. To report a problem with a club, Anytime Fitness lists 1-800-704-5004 and member.solutions@sebrands.com.

I'm moving. Do I have to cancel?

Not necessarily. Anytime Fitness says memberships can move to another club with no transfer fee. A move must be more than 10 miles from your last home, and your dues can change at the new club.

Does my membership renew at the end of its term?

Check your agreement. The Anytime Fitness FAQ says a membership renews at the end of its term if you initialed automatic renewal. Its promotion terms say some 12-month offers renew at the regular monthly rate until you cancel.

Cancel it yourself. Apple bills Fitness+, and once the free period ends Apple charges $9.99 a month until you cancel in your Apple subscriptions.
