Fee warning
Your home club must receive your request at least 8 days before your next billing date, or one more monthly payment can come out. The same 8-day rule applies to the annual fee. Planet Fitness lists it at $49, some clubs charge a different amount, and the date depends on when you joined. Find yours in My Billing Info & Balance or your membership agreement. If your membership has a minimum term, often 12 months, ending it early costs a $58 buyout. Some rules differ by club and state, so check your membership agreement.
First, find out who bills you
Planet Fitness franchises are independently owned and operated, and Planet Fitness also owns some clubs itself. Either way, your home club (the club where you joined, or the club you transferred to) handles your billing, so that's who you cancel with unless it has closed.
Fastest check: Sign in at planetfitness.com/login or in the PF App and open My Billing Info & Balance to see your billing dates. Your account also holds your membership agreement.

Cancel online in your Planet Fitness account
Planet Fitness lists its online member portal as one way to end a membership, and its no-commitment offers are advertised as cancel online, anytime. Some rules vary by location and state.
- Go to planetfitness.com/login and select Log Into Your Account.
- Sign in with the same email and password you use for the PF App.
- Open My Billing Info & Balance and note your next billing date and your annual fee date.
- Find the option to end your membership and follow the steps. Check the end date and any final charges before you confirm.
- Save a screenshot of the confirmation, and keep any email Planet Fitness sends.
Done when: You have a confirmation that shows the date your membership ends.
- No way to end your membership in your account? Send a letter or visit your home club instead.
- Do it at least 8 days before your next billing date. Billing changes can take up to 7 days to take effect.
- Deleting the PF App or no longer going to the gym doesn't cancel your membership.
Cancel by mail
Planet Fitness accepts written notice mailed to your home club. Tracked mail gives you proof of when the club received it.
- Find your home club's address on its page at planetfitness.com/gyms, or in your membership agreement.
- Write a short letter with your full name, your home club, your PF Club Pass number if you have it, and the date. Say that you are ending your Planet Fitness membership, and sign it.
- Send it to your home club by certified mail with return receipt, or another service with tracking. Keep a copy.
Done when: Tracking shows the club received your letter at least 8 days before your next billing date.
- What counts is the day the club receives your letter, not the day you send it. Mail early.
- Send it to your home club. That's where Planet Fitness says written notice goes.
Cancel at your home club
You can also end your membership at the front desk of your home club.
- Find your home club's address and hours at planetfitness.com/gyms.
- At the front desk, say you want to end your membership.
- Ask for written confirmation that shows your end date and anything you still owe, such as a buyout or the annual fee.
- Keep the confirmation until your last charge has cleared.
Done when: You leave with written confirmation of the date your membership ends.

If your home club has closed
When your home club is closed, Planet Fitness says to contact its Member Services department instead of the club.
- Open the Planet Fitness Contact Us page.
- Under Select your club, type your home club's name and select it, then select Member Survey to open the contact form.
- For your primary reason for contacting Planet Fitness, select Concern or Question. In Additional Comments, say that your home club has closed and that you want to end your membership.
- Enter your name, the email on your account and your member number, then send the form. Keep a copy of what you wrote.
Done when: Member Services confirms in writing the date your membership ends.
- Member Services is open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm Eastern Time, and replies as soon as it can.
Freeze, switch or transfer instead of cancelling
Planet Fitness's own program terms mention freezing a membership, but Planet Fitness doesn't publish how long a freeze can last or what it costs. Ask your home club.
Paying for PF Black Card and want something cheaper? Your home club can move you to Classic. Planet Fitness handles downgrades at the club.
Moving? You can transfer your membership to another club online at planetfitness.com/my-account/membership if you're an adult, have been a member for at least 90 days, haven't transferred in the past 90 days, owe nothing, have no financial cosigner or subsidized membership, and pay monthly. Otherwise ask your home club. A transfer fee may apply, and you can only transfer to a club in the same country. Unused Refer-a-Friend free months don't move with a transfer. A PF Black Card already works at any Planet Fitness, but if you visit a club other than your home club more than 10 times in a calendar month, a $5 franchise fee per visit may apply.
Free day pass
Planet Fitness's free offer is a day pass, which you get in the PF App or at a club. It isn't a membership, so there's nothing to cancel.
If you joined after your visit and changed your mind, act right away. Your membership agreement says whether you can cancel within a short time after joining.
What happens after you cancel
- Access: Planet Fitness doesn't publish how long you can keep using the club after you cancel. Your confirmation, or your home club, gives your end date.
- Referral credits: Free months you earned through Refer-a-Friend are lost when you cancel, even if you rejoin later.
- Your data: Planet Fitness keeps personal information as long as it reasonably needs it to provide its services, for marketing unless you opt out, or as the law allows or requires. Depending on your state, you may be able to ask Planet Fitness to delete it with the request form on its privacy rights page, by email at privacy@planetfitness.com (with Your Privacy Rights in the subject) or at 1-844-880-7180.
- Rejoining: Join again at planetfitness.com/gyms. You sign up under the club's current offer, which lists its own startup fee, annual fee and commitment.
How to check it worked
- Keep your confirmation, signed copy or mail tracking receipt until your last charge has cleared.
- After your next billing date, check My Billing Info & Balance or your bank statement. No dues should come out after your end date.
- Watch your annual fee date too. If the club charges it after you cancelled in time, contact your home club with your proof.
Getting a refund
- Billed by your home club: Planet Fitness doesn't publish a refund policy. Your membership agreement says whether you can cancel within a short time after joining, and your home club answers questions about a specific charge.
