Fee warning
If your membership or personal training agreement has an initial term of three months or more and you're still in it, your cancellation takes effect when that term ends. Ending it sooner costs a termination fee. Mailed notice should be postmarked at least 5 business days before your next billing date.
First, find out who bills you
LA Fitness charges your bank account or card itself. Apple and Google don't bill LA Fitness memberships: the LA Fitness app is free, with no in-app purchases.
Fastest check: Sign in at lafitness.com and select Billing Information in the left menu. Your membership agreement shows any initial term and its fees.
| What you see | Who bills you | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| A recurring LA Fitness dues charge on your bank account or card | LA Fitness | Cancel on the LA Fitness website |
| A personal training agreement, or a membership you paid in full up front | LA Fitness, under that agreement | Cancel at an LA Fitness club |
| You were added as a family member on someone else's membership | The main member | Family members on a membership |
Cancel on the LA Fitness website
LA Fitness says most club memberships are month-to-month and can be cancelled through your online account.
- On a computer, open the LA Fitness Contact Us page and select Message us.
- Select Yes, I am a member, then sign in with your LA Fitness username and password.
- Select Cancel, then Continue to cancel page.
- The feedback box is optional. Select Continue to cancelation page and finish the cancel page.
Done when: The site says your membership has been cancelled and LA Fitness emails you a confirmation.
- Have more than one membership? Repeat the process for each one.
- No online account yet? Create one at lafitness.com/Pages/RegisterMember.aspx. You need the barcode number of your membership.
- If Continue to cancel page doesn't appear, try a computer browser, or cancel at a club or by mail.
- Questions about cancelling an agreement with an initial term of three months or more, or a paid-in-full agreement? LA Fitness asks you to visit your club or use its Contact Us page.
Cancel at an LA Fitness club
LA Fitness lets you cancel in person at a club's front desk.
- Find a club at lafitness.com/Pages/FindClub.aspx and go to the front desk.
- Say: "I want to cancel my LA Fitness membership. Please give me written confirmation."
- Ask for the date the cancellation takes effect and the date of your last charge.
- Write down the date and the name of the person who helped you.
Done when: You have written or emailed confirmation that shows the date your membership ends.
- Cancel personal training and other add-on agreements at the same visit. Each agreement has its own terms.
- The front desk may not be able to take your cancellation. In a 2025 lawsuit, the FTC says only a club's Operations Manager could process in-person cancellations, during limited hours. If the front desk can't help, ask when that manager is in.
- If the club can't process it on the spot, cancel by mail instead so you have a dated record.
Cancel by mail
You can mail written notice. LA Fitness recommends registered or certified mail.
- Write a short, signed and dated letter saying you're cancelling your LA Fitness membership. Add your full name, address, email, phone number and membership barcode number.
- Mail it to LA Fitness, P.O. Box 54170, Irvine, CA 92619 by registered or certified mail.
- Mail it so the postmark is at least 5 business days before your next billing date.
- Keep a copy of the letter and the mailing receipt.
Done when: Your mailing receipt shows the postmark date, and no dues charge comes after the date your cancellation takes effect.
- Postmarked within 5 business days of your billing date? You may be billed once more. LA Fitness says it refunds that charge.
- Don't use the payments address (PO Box 51355). Cancellations go to P.O. Box 54170.
- Depending on the state where you joined, your agreement may also let you cancel by email.
Family members on a membership
The main member can add up to three family members to a membership, with extra dues and fees. The main member pays for them.
LA Fitness doesn't publish separate steps for removing a family member. Ask at a club's front desk and get written confirmation. If you're cancelling the main membership, ask what happens to the family members on it.
Freeze instead of cancelling
A freeze keeps your membership at a lower cost while you're away for more than 30 days. It only saves money if your dues are more than the freeze fee.
Monthly dues: $10 a month, for as long as you like. If your next billing date is within 10 days, the freeze starts with the following month's billing. When you unfreeze, you pay a prorated share of your regular dues for the rest of that month.
Bi-weekly dues: $5 per bi-weekly billing, with the same 10-day rule. Weekly dues memberships can't be frozen.
Paid in full: up to 6 months for a $35 fee. Your membership's end date moves later by the time you froze it.
Kids Klub memberships can be frozen at no cost through your club.
To freeze online, sign in at lafitness.com and select Freeze in the left menu.
Free guest pass
LA Fitness offers a free 3-day guest pass instead of a paid trial. You activate it at a club within 30 days of getting the email, and it covers 3 days in a row for you and a friend. You can get one every six months.
Before you use the pass, a membership counselor gives you an orientation and may present membership or personal training options. If you signed a membership agreement during your visit, that agreement is what bills you, and the steps above apply.
What LA Fitness suggests before you leave
LA Fitness's cancellation FAQ suggests a freeze, or moving to a club near your new home if you're relocating. The online cancel flow asks for optional feedback, which you can leave empty.
- Freeze your membership for $10 a month: A freeze still charges you. To stop paying, continue with the cancellation.
- Use a club near your new home: If you don't want to stay a member, continue with the cancellation.
What happens after you cancel
- Access: You can use the club for any time you've prepaid. If you prepaid your last month's dues when you joined, that month follows the month covered by your last regular payment before LA Fitness got your notice. Your membership ends when that month is over.
- Initial term: If you're still inside an initial term of three months or more, the cancellation takes effect when that term ends. Leaving sooner costs a termination fee. Your agreement lists the term and the fee.
- Rejoining: Join again online or at a club. Advertised rates can change, so check the price before you sign up.
How to check it worked
- Keep the cancellation email, the written confirmation from the club, or your mailing receipt.
- Check that personal training and any other agreements are cancelled too. Each one has its own terms.
- Watch your bank or card statement after your next billing date. If a new dues charge appears after your cancellation took effect, contact the club with your proof.
Getting a refund
- Late mailed notice: If your mailed notice is postmarked within 5 business days of your billing date, you may be billed once more. LA Fitness says it refunds that extra charge.
- Other charges: The FAQ doesn't describe refunds for unused time. Instead, you can use the club until your prepaid time runs out. Your agreement sets any other refund rights, and rules differ by state.
- Charged after you cancelled: Contact your club, or LA Fitness through its Contact Us page, and send your cancellation confirmation.
Refund rules differ by country and by provider.
Questions people ask
Can I cancel LA Fitness online?
Yes, for most month-to-month memberships, in a computer browser. Sign in through the Contact Us page, select Cancel, then Continue to cancel page. On a phone, Cancel leads only to a question form. If your account doesn't offer it, cancel at a club or by mail.
Can I cancel by phone?
LA Fitness doesn't list phone as a way to cancel. Its FAQ names your online account, a club's front desk and mail. Depending on the state where you joined, your agreement may also allow email.
Do I have to cancel at my home club?
LA Fitness's FAQ says you can cancel in person at a club's front desk, but it doesn't say whether any club can do it. Call the club before you go, or cancel online or by mail.
How much notice do I need to give?
For mail, a postmark at least 5 business days before your next billing date. If you're inside an initial term of three months or more, the cancellation only takes effect when that term ends.
Can I cancel in the LA Fitness app?
The app's listed features are check-in, classes, training sessions and court bookings, not billing or cancelling. Use the website, a club or mail.
Does a freeze stop the charges?
No. A freeze costs $10 a month on monthly dues, or $5 per bi-weekly billing. Only a cancellation stops the charges.
How do I cancel personal training?
Personal training is a separate agreement. LA Fitness's FAQ lets you cancel it the same ways as a membership: at a club, by mail, or through your online account. If it has an initial term of three months or more and you're still in it, the cancellation takes effect when the term ends, and ending it sooner costs a termination fee. Questions? LA Fitness asks you to visit your club or use its Contact Us page.
