How to cancel Equinox

Quick answer

  1. Check the notice period in your Membership Agreement. Email Concierge@Equinox.com for a copy if you don't have one.
  2. Sign in at equinox.com/account and cancel your membership, or email Cancellations@Equinox.com.
  3. Cancel any personal training, Pilates or spa subscription too. Equinox handles these separately.
  4. Keep the written confirmation that shows your end date.
  5. Paying for the Equinox+ app through Apple or Google Play? Cancel it there.

Your membership ends on the date your agreement's notice period sets, and notice periods differ by state. Any refund depends on your agreement. Apple or Google Play bills an Equinox+ app subscription you bought there, so cancel that with them.

Fee warning

Your Membership Agreement sets the notice period, which varies by state, so read it before you cancel to know your end date. Personal training, Pilates and spa subscriptions have their own agreements and keep renewing until you cancel them. In-club personal training and Pilates subscriptions start with a 6- or 12-week commitment period, and your Subscription Agreement sets the cancellation terms. Equinox doesn't refund unused sessions unless the law requires it. Equinox+ annual and bike subscriptions cancelled in the first 12 months run to the end of the 12-month term.

First, find out who bills you

Equinox bills your club membership itself. Training, Pilates and spa subscriptions are separate agreements, and the Equinox+ app can be billed by Apple, Google Play or a company you bought it through.

Fastest check: In the EQX+ app (called Equinox+ in the App Store and Google Play), tap the icon in the upper left corner, then Membership & Billing, to see your Membership Status. You can also sign in at equinox.com/account.

Cancel by mail

  2. Write a dated, signed letter with your full name, home club, membership barcode ID and a request to cancel your membership.
  3. Send it with tracking and keep a copy.

Cancel personal training, Pilates or spa subscriptions

These subscription programs have their own Subscription Agreements and renew until you cancel them.

  1. Check the cancellation terms in your Subscription Agreement. Your club's Personal Training, Pilates or Spa Manager can give you a copy.
  2. Cancel with the General Manager or the Personal Training, Pilates or Spa Manager at the club named on the first page of your agreement, or call Equinox Concierge at 1-866-332-6549.
  3. Or cancel in writing: email Concierge@Equinox.com, or mail Equinox – Concierge, One Park Avenue, Mezz. Floor, New York, NY 10016.
  4. If you turned on auto-renew for session packs in the app, open the EQX+ app, tap the icon in the upper left corner, then Membership & Billing, and turn auto-renew off.
  5. Ask for written confirmation of the date each subscription ends.

Done when: Equinox confirms in writing that the subscription has ended, and no new session charges appear.

  • In-club training and Pilates subscriptions start with a 6- or 12-week commitment, then renew weekly. Spa subscriptions renew monthly.
  • Sessions expire when your membership ends or 6 months after you bought them, whichever comes first. Equinox doesn't refund unused sessions unless the law requires it.

Cancel Equinox+ billed by Equinox

Use this for an Equinox+ app subscription you pay Equinox for directly. If Apple or Google Play bills you, use their steps below.

  1. Go to equinoxplus.com/account and sign in.
  2. Select Profile, then Manage next to Membership Details.
  3. Select Cancel Membership, then confirm and save.

Done when: Equinox+ confirms the cancellation. You keep access until the end of the current term.

  • In the Equinox+ app, tap the Profile bubble, then Membership & Billing, Cancel My Membership and Cancel Now.
  • Annual and SoulCycle At-Home Bike subscriptions cancelled in their first 12 months end at the end of the 12-month term.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid the next charge. To see that date in the Equinox+ app, tap your initials at the top left, then Membership & Billing and Manage, and look for Next Billing Date.
  • You can also cancel by email: write to hello@equinoxplus.com and follow the instructions in the reply.
  • Bought Equinox+ through another company? That company may bill you, so cancel or turn off auto-renew with them.

Equinox+ billed by Apple

If you started Equinox+ in the iPhone app, Apple bills you and you cancel with Apple.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Apple subscriptions.
  2. Tap Equinox+.
  3. Tap Cancel Subscription.

Done when: Equinox+ in your Apple subscriptions shows an end date instead of a renewal date.

  • The same link works on a Mac, where it opens your subscriptions in the App Store.
  • No Cancel Subscription button means it's already cancelled.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
  • Apple bills only the Equinox+ app. Cancel a club membership with Equinox.

Equinox+ billed by Google Play

If you started Equinox+ in the Android app, Google Play bills you and you cancel there.

  1. Open the Play Store and tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Equinox+.
  4. Tap Cancel subscription.

Done when: Google Play shows the date the subscription ends.

Freeze instead of cancelling

Equinox lets you freeze your membership if you can't use any club for medical reasons, or for another reason the law requires, as your Membership Agreement describes. For other reasons, such as a long trip, ask your club's front desk or Concierge@Equinox.com what's possible.

Request a freeze at any club in your membership class, where you fill out a request form, or by email to Concierge@Equinox.com. Freezes can't be backdated, and for some requests Equinox asks for a signed letter from a doctor or other medical provider.

You can't freeze with a past-due balance, a payroll-deducted or subsidized corporate membership, or a short-term membership. Locker and laundry fees keep running during a freeze, and session expiration dates don't pause. If you check in while frozen, Equinox can switch your membership back to active and add prorated dues.

To unfreeze, go to your club or email Concierge@Equinox.com.

Equinox+ free trial

The Equinox+ app comes with a free 7-day trial. When it ends, you're charged through the App Store, Google Play or the payment method you signed up with, unless you cancel first.

Equinox+ says it doesn't remind you that the trial is ending, and it allows one free trial per household. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, with the same company you signed up through.

What Equinox suggests before you leave

Equinox's FAQ suggests freezing your membership instead of cancelling if you're going away or can't use the club for a while. If you're offered a freeze and still want to leave, say so and ask for your end date in writing.

  • A freeze instead of cancelling: Say: "No thanks, I want to cancel. Please confirm my end date and any final charges in writing."

What happens after you cancel

  • Access: You can use the club until the end date your agreement's notice period sets. Ask for that date in writing. Equinox+ access that comes with your club membership ends with it. To keep the app, you need a paid Equinox+ subscription of your own.
  • Sessions, lockers and credits: Unused training and Pilates sessions expire when your membership ends. So do Premium Classes you bought in the EQX+ app, such as Reformer Pilates classes, so use them before your end date. Overnight locker and laundry agreements end when your Membership Agreement is cancelled, so empty your locker. Complimentary credits, such as referral rewards, become void on cancellation, so use them first.
  • Your data: Equinox keeps your information as long as it needs it to provide services or meet legal and contractual obligations. Depending on your state, you can ask it to delete your data at equinox.com/privacyrequest or by calling 1-332-214-7190.
  • Rejoining: Reactivate your membership at your local club or by emailing Concierge@Equinox.com.

How to check it worked

  1. Keep the written confirmation that shows the date your membership ends.
  2. In the EQX+ app, tap the icon in the upper left corner, then Membership & Billing, and check Membership Status. Or sign in at equinox.com/account.
  3. Check that every training, Pilates or spa subscription has ended and session auto-renew is off.
  4. If you paid for Equinox+ through Apple or Google Play, check that it shows an end date there.
  5. Check your card or bank statement after your end date for new Equinox charges.

Getting a refund

  • Club membership: Your Membership Agreement sets whether you get anything back. In some states, cancelling soon after a dues increase can give you extra rights. Ask your club's General Manager or Concierge@Equinox.com about your balance.
  • Training, Pilates and spa: Sales are final unless the law requires a refund. Unused sessions aren't refunded when you cancel, except in the limited cases your Membership Agreement lists.
  • Equinox+ billed by Equinox: No refunds or credits for a partly used term. You keep access until the term ends.
  • Billed by Apple: Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides, not Equinox.
  • Billed by Google Play: Within 48 hours of a purchase, you may be able to request a refund on Google Play. After that, Google says to contact the developer, Equinox Media.

If you were billed through the App Store, Apple decides eligibility case by case. Refund rules differ by country and by provider.

Questions people ask

Can I cancel Equinox online?

Yes. Sign in at equinox.com/account, or email Cancellations@Equinox.com. You can also call Equinox Concierge at 1-866-332-6549, see a club manager, or send a letter as your agreement describes.

How much notice do I have to give?

It depends on your state and your Membership Agreement. Equinox doesn't publish one notice period for everyone. Email Concierge@Equinox.com for a copy of your agreement if you don't have it.

Does cancelling my membership also cancel personal training, Pilates or spa?

Equinox lists separate cancellation steps for these subscription programs, so cancel them too. Use your club's manager, Equinox Concierge or Concierge@Equinox.com, and turn off session auto-renew in the EQX+ app.

Will I keep the Equinox+ app?

Not automatically. Equinox+ access that comes with your club membership ends when you cancel. To keep the app only, tell Equinox Concierge before you cancel, or email hello@equinoxplus.com if you already have. Keeping the app means starting a paid Equinox+ subscription of your own.

Can I freeze my membership instead?

Yes, if you can't use the club for medical reasons or another reason the law requires. For other reasons, ask your club's front desk or Concierge@Equinox.com. Freezes can't be backdated.

I pay for Equinox+ through Apple. Can Equinox cancel it?

No. Equinox says to cancel through the store you joined on. Use your Apple subscriptions, or Google Play if you joined on Android.

How do I rejoin later?

Reactivate your membership at your local club or by emailing Concierge@Equinox.com.
